FLEXIBILTY

“Flexible attitudes build flexible physiology. Flexible physiology means more resilience in times of challenge or strain. Staying open- emotionally- insures internal flexibility”.-  Doc Childre & Bruce Cryer

The ACA Code of Ethics states this regarding flexibility: “Honoring diversity and embracing a multicultural approach in support of the worth, dignity, potential and uniqueness of people within their social and cultural contexts” (ACA, 2014, P.3).

In reflecting on my journey as a counselor, throughout my program I have learned that you must be flexible in the way that we show up and support our clients. Through my supervisions observations and clinical feedback, I have learned that the best practice is to have an expansive toolbox, with various therapeutic interventions that can be used to help support our diverse clientele.

I have grown to learn the importance of being flexible within our field and learn to adapt to the potential barriers that may exist within our clients.

The artifact within the page below, contains a paper that pertains to psychological testing and assessment selection and how as a counselor we can go about ensuring that we use best practice in not only the selection of our assessment and testing tools, but also to be flexible and consider factors or potential barriers that may impact the results of the data; it is also important as a counselor to be flexible in implementing appropriate accommodations for our clientele when appropriate.

I plan to continue to grow in this counseling disposition through my continued affiliation of with the American Counseling Association, so that I may continue to stay up to date through various trainings, seminars, and workshops on the most current evidence based assessment and testing tools, in addition to continued supervision and guidance from my counseling mentors.
