Clinical Skills and Theory Development

Cognitive behavioral therapy is a theoretical counseling approach that is grounded in the intricate connections between human thoughts, emotions and behaviors (ACA Code of Ethics, 2014). It is grounded in the idea that if we can change or thinking patterns as it pertains to every day life and interactions, we can develop healthier perspectives and utilize uniquely identified coping skills that foster emotional well-being and resilience.
Clinical CBT skills that I utilize are: cognitive restructuring, guided discovery, skills training and psychoeducation to help aid in therapeutic intervention regarding this specific theoretical approach.
